Hydrogen
Power up with Hydrogen
Overview
Hydrogen is emerging as a crucial component in decarbonising various sectors, significantly impacting the power, gas, chemicals, and fuel markets. It can potentially play a vital role in helping countries and industries achieve their net-zero emissions targets by the year 2050
Hydrogen offers a unique solution for reducing emissions across different sectors and complements other decarbonization strategies such as direct electrification, energy efficiency improvements, and biomass-based fuels
The global market for hydrogen supply to industrial users has expanded significantly, with demand increasing more than threefold since 1975. Currently, most hydrogen production relies on fossil fuels, utilizing approximately 6% of the world’s natural gas and 2% of global coal. This reliance leads to substantial CO2 emissions, estimated at around 830 million tonnes annually, which is comparable to the total emissions produced by the United Kingdom and Indonesia combined
